Having some fun with choke releases on the ground. This is a common martial arts technique that comes up in self defense situations, and is also a bread-and-butter in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and in Okinawan Karate (as we teach in our dojo in San Diego)
Starting with the aggressor in the mount position and choking us, our first order of business is to protect our airway:
Next, we initiate the sweep escape from the mount:
..and we complete the sweep:
At class we showed follow through techniques that allow us to get up safely so we can leave the threat area. In a self-defense situation you generally want to minimize the amount of time you are on the ground.
