Shoshin, “beginner’s mind”.
In martial arts, we seek to cultivate a beginner’s mind – an attitude of openness and lack of preoccupation when studying a subject – even a subject in which we have a great deal of prior knowledge.
Can you reincarnate the curious learning of a child? Can you listen to viewpoints without immediately analyzing whether you agree or disagree with them?
Practicing Shoshin allows us to optimally learn from the world.
